Backpacking Course + Trip
Take your adventure into your own hands this year.
Learn valuable wilderness skills to give you the confidence to begin planning your own day and overnight hikes. This is a virtual course that utilizes Google Classroom and Zoom for interactive learning. Your instructor will email you the material once you register. You will be expected to read/watch the material, take quizzes, and then attend Q&A sessions and demonstrations with your instructor through Zoom. Wilderness Skills include:
- basic navigation
- how to pack less and do more
- emergency first aid
- meal planning
- water filtration
- Leave No Trace principles
- physical conditioning
- trip planning
- basic survival skills
- basic risk management
You'll also get valuable checklists for planning and packing for your future trips.
Upon completing the course you'll be ready to join one of our overnight backpacking trips this summer:
Pete Lake, WA - July 22-23, 2021 (Beginners) - 5 miles one way with little elevation gain. If you are new to backpacking, this is the perfect adventure for you. (2 days, 1 night)
- Pear Lake, WA - August 6-7, 2021 (Intermediate) - 6 miles one with a fair amount of elevation gain and a lot of chances to practice your navigation skills. If you are looking for more of a challenge this is the adventure for you. (2 days, 1 night).
- White Pass to Chinook Pass - PCT, WA - August 18-21, 2021 (Advanced) - 10 miles per day for a total of 30 miles total with plenty of elevation gain and descent. This is a great introduction to Thru-hiking and a way to practice many of your wilderness skills. (3 days, 2 nights)
*Capacity for each trip is limited to 8 to accommodate trail rules and COVID-19 guidelines.
