Update for 2021 Retreats

Dear Friends,

As promised, we have been monitoring state restrictions and working toward hosting our retreat in Leavenworth this May.  We are grateful that you have all been patient and understanding through the past eleven months.  Unfortunately, due to the current state capacity restrictions, the vaccine schedule, and the Covid-19 policies in place at the facility, our Leavenworth retreat will once again be canceled.  We know this is disappointing news, and we apologize.  We hate this. It has been difficult and frustrating to find we are still shutdown in Washington nearly a year after this pandemic started.   Please understand that we are doing everything in our power to host events as soon as we are able. Here are just some of the policies from both the state and the facility which are restricting our ability to host a retreat:

  • No persons may share sleeping/housing accommodations that are not in the same household.
  • No food preparation/KITCHEN IS CLOSED.
  • Outdoor activities, including ropes, climbing, zipline, etc., are not operating at Tall Timber due to the close-contact nature of these activities.
  • No gathering of more than 50+ persons.

We are uncertain when gatherings, like ours, will once again be allowed in Washington, so we are NOT rescheduling this retreat.  However, we do have some alternatives to offer. Small gatherings are more feasible in Washington, so we can do small backpacking trips.  However, Utah is the only nearby state that will allow a large gathering like ours, so we have secured dates at Big Canyon Ranch in Park City. Accordingly, we have the following options for you to transfer your registration, at no additional cost:

  • Park City, Utah Retreat – September 16 – 18, 2021
    • 20 spaces currently available
    • Stay in a gorgeous mountain lodge, enjoy rock climbing, the giant swing, archery, yoga, and hiking.
    • Skills Summit – new to Park City this year! Learn basic navigation, how to plan and pack for an overnight backpacking trip, basic wilderness skills, strength and conditioning for outdoor activities, yoga and meditation basics, and intro to rock climbing.
  • Backpacking Course + Overnight Hike
    • Take your adventure into your own hands and learn valuable skills to give you the confidence to begin planning your own day/overnight hikes. This course includes in-person and virtual instruction before the overnight trip + meal kits, maps, permits, while on the trip.  Some of the skills you will learn include:
      • How to pack less
      • Basic Navigation
      • Emergency First Aid
      • 10 Essentials + Gear Recommendations
      • How to plan a trip
      • Strength and Conditioning
    • Once you have taken the course, you will be ready to join one of our group overnight hikes. Each trip has a 10-person capacity in order to comply with WA State restrictions.  Choose from the following:
      • Pete Lake, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA – July 22- 23, 2021
        • Beginner – If you are new to overnight backpacking, this is the trip for you. We will be hiking a trail that has little elevation gain and will be around 5 miles one way. We will begin our adventure early in the day, giving us plenty of time to hike to our destination at a leisurely pace. Once we reach the lake you will be able to relax further and just enjoy the beauty that is all around you. This will be a one-night adventure.
      • Pear Lake, William O. Douglas Wilderness, WA – Aug 6-7, 2021
        • Intermediate – So you’ve been on some longer day hikes maybe even a few overnight hikes and want to try something a little more challenging. This is the hike for you. The one-way, 6 mile trail will have a fair amount of elevation gain and a lot of navigation. We will follow it as it meanders through several lakes and open fields. Once we reach our destination and set up camp there will be an opportunity to climb to a nearby peak. This is a great hike if you are wanting to challenge and expand some of your outdoor skills. This will be a one-night adventure.
      • White Pass to Chinook Pass, Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), WA – Aug 18-21, 2021
        • You have had considerable outdoor and hiking experience. Now you really want to challenge yourself. This is the hike for you. We will be hiking close to 10 trail miles each day for a total of close to 30 trail miles. Each day will have plenty of elevation gain and descent. Close attention will need to be paid to the trail, intersections, and water sources. This will be a great way to try out a short through hike to prepare for longer hikes. This will be a three-night adventure.

**Don’t delay! Your next step is to use the form below to inform us of your choice from the events listed above.  Camille, Diana, and Molly are standing by ready to answer your questions.  We will continue to work with local health districts and facilities to ensure our events are safe, compliant, and fun!

We know many of you have waited patiently with us and we are incredibly thankful.  We know that many of you may have to travel more than you planned in order to attend one of these events, and we apologize.  Please know that it will be worth it.  We know that a few of you have questions about refunds, but with a small business like ours, they are still not possible, and we apologize.  Please know that all of our staff and instructors in the coming year will be volunteering their time in order to make these events possible.  We are doing our best to stay afloat through this pandemic and the associated shutdowns, but it hasn’t been easy.  We love being with you in the outdoors and sharing in your adventures, it has been a dream come true.

We hope and pray that you and your families are well and finding your way through all this.

Molly, Camille, & Diana
